Jillian Barfield is the director of TJobBank.com. The Service is run by herself with the help of an occasional volunteer and is completely self-funded. The job bank was started as a result of two-events, one involving the transgender community and one personal. The public event relating to the transgender community happened when on September 14, 2007 at the Southern Comfort Conference in Atlanta where she was in attendance, Joe Solmonese President of the HRC said the following during the event's keynote address: " We try walk a thin line in terms of keeping everything in play, and making sure that we move forward but always being clear that one we absolutely do not support and in fact oppose any legislation that is not absolutely inclusive, and we have sent that message loud and clear to the hill". " In 2007 House Leadership informed us that there were insufficient votes to pass an inclusive bill, so they decided to vote on a sexual orientation only bill." she says " When I started TJobBank, I contacted every business listed in the HRC CEI and offered our free services to allow them to prove that they were truly inclusive by posting employment opportunities. Out of all the businesses listed as being fully inclusive one business posted one job. Then I sent pleas to the members of the United Enda Coalition, a group of LGBT organizations and individuals who overwhelmingly opposed HRC in support of going forward with the non-inclusive vote on ENDA. TJobBank has received numerous posts for jobs in non-profits and small businesses as a result."
The other reason behind the creation of TJobBank hit closer to home. She quit her job of 9 years at IBM to become Vice President of her brother's company. She hoped that with some family support, transition would be easier. " To make a long story short" She says, after 2 years she announced her transition plans to her brother who was the president of the company. She was threatened with violence by him and fired.
