Transition Radio Industries September 2012
Life has been more than kind to the Pittsburgh, PA native. Tarra Layne is building quite the following, making bold moves, and the future is looking mighty bright for the singer. Combining her heavy 90s R&B upbringing with a love for classic rock ‘n roll, Tarra is uprooting and constructing a style of her own. Her vocal coach coined her sound as “Funktry”, a big soulful timbre with a gritty, contemporary twist. Her self-titled debut was released November 2011 and she quickly earned a spot gracing the stage with Gavin DeGraw and Vanessa Carlton at the Origins Rocks Earth Month concert in 2012. Tarra’s single, “Beautiful Day”, has been featured in Origins Skin Care’s campaigns and she is captivating the Pittsburgh regional area, being recognized by Iron City Sound (Iron City Beer) as an artist on the rise.

Up until now, the Pittsburgh Tribune Review followed her, cameras in hand, documenting The Life of a Struggling Artist. She has swooned the listeners of Froggy radio, Pittsburgh’s 93.7 The Fan, working a rendition of Zeppelin tune, “Rock ‘n Roll”, and rocked sports venues with the National Anthem.

Blending blues, soul, and southern rock into a catchy contemporary stew, her sound sets itself apart from other female artists in her generation. So far, her talent has taken her to Nashville, New York, Minneapolis, and Atlanta to record and write with some of the biggest players in the industry. Now a bit saltier, she is gearing up to release her next record this year. Stay tuned, folks. It’s about to get “Heated.”

Background:
Tarra Layne Birdsall grew up outside of Pittsburgh, singing in church and school choirs. With artists like Whitney, Aretha, Madonna, and Janis on replay, Tarra’s aspirations flourished. Her high school music teacher pushed her into competing, which heightened her desire to live her dream on stage. She dragged her passion to Nashville after her father, a very inspiring musician in her life, passed in 2008.
