Jamison Green is a pioneering activist for transsexual and transgender health, civil rights, and social safety. He led FTM International from 1991-1999, helped organize and documented San Francisco’s 1994 public hearing on anti-trans discrimination, and wrote the first non-discrimination ordinance to include gender identity (1994, effective 1995). He spearheaded the ongoing drive for removal of trans exclusions in health insurance plans, and advocates for trans integrity, autonomy, and pride in workplaces, healthcare settings, and legislative venues around the world. He is the author of the prize-winning book, “Becoming a Visible Man,” which has informed and inspired thousands of trans and non-trans people alike. He holds an MFA in creative writing, and he earned his PhD in law in 2011. He’s been in over a dozen documentary films, including the award-winning “You Don’t Know Dick” and “Trans,” and he speaks at conferences and community events all over the world. He’s been on the boards of directors for community organizations like TransYouth Family Allies, the Transgender Law & Policy Institute, the International Foundation for Gender Education, and Gender Education & Advocacy, Inc. He is currently serving as President of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, and teaches a doctoral-level transgender policy course at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco.
