Christine Beatty says, " My transsexual odyssey started when I left my marriage in 1985, a miserable twenty-seven year old who hated life as a man. I faced ridicule and discrimination, spiraling into prostitution, heroin and even worse. I should have died many times before I staggered onto the tortuous path of recovery and became a sober, successful woman. On my way to becoming a senior software engineer, I've been a journalist, a transgender activist and one of the very first transsexual lead singers in a working, recording heavy metal rock band. I've recovered from a life best described as "suicide on the installment plan" as a heroin addict and prostitute who survived jail, much drug-induced psychosis, homelessness and anti-transgender bigotry.
I'm also a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, and recovering addict and alcoholic with 17 cumulative years clean and sober. I have lived out so many of the dreams I never thought I could reach, including completing my sex reassignment (sex change) surgery, and I firmly believe the best is yet to come. I just turned 50 in 2008, so there's lots ahead."
Since 1991 her work has been seen in Transgender Tapestry, Spectator, TransSisters, Bay Area Reporter, The SF Bay Times and Chrysalis Quarterly.
A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, she currently resides in Los Angeles. She is currently doing final edits on her first novel, taking a film school curriculum and squeezing in guitar practice when she can, so with her full time day job she is surely stretched pretty thin!
